JTILTD works with WORLD ICU to develop comprehensive list of team competencies.

Several Subject Matter Experts, drawn from team practitioners, academics, and members from organizations using teamwork, participated in identifying a comprehensive list of team competencies. Specific competencies were identified that will allow individuals to assess their knowledge, skill, qualification or capacity in order to be a good team member; a team leader; and a team creator/sponsor.

This comprehensive list of competencies is foundational to the work of JTILTD in ensuring our workshops focus on developing specific competencies. For our clients this means that programs can be developed that target specific competencies that may be lacking or need improvement. This focus reduces training and development time and costs while supporting adult learning principles of autonomy, self-directed,
honoring life experiences & knowledge, goal-oriented, relevancy-oriented, practical
and respectful.

JTILTD accredited in Team Management Systems (TMS) Assessments and Programs.

Following several months of research and ongoing discussions Jim Fyke , founder of JTILTD met Bonnie Cooper, Director of Business Development and Tom Gibbons, Director of Learning, for Team Management Systems of the Americas. They all agreed that a business alliance could be very beneficial to both JTILTD and TMS. In order to professionally represent and support TMS, JTILTD became certified in all TMS assessments and is now developing and supporting TMS's full range of offerings in Western Canada.

Drs Charles Margerison and Dick McCann's founders of Team Management Systems, have become world leaders in the research, development and creation of team based assessment and organizational development psychometrics. The TMS suite of profiles is one of the most extensively researched and reliable set of psychometrics available in the world today. Their commitment to independent and continuous research, high ethical standards, and relentless pursuit of excellence in customer service and product development makes for an ideal business alliance.

TMS's knowledge, assessments, research and local support enhances JTI's expertise, product and training offerings focused on leadership and team development. We look forward to a long and evolving business relationship.

Jim and Sandy Fyke travel to the UK

Jim and Sandy visited Belbin® and Associates, the University of Bath, Salford University and other business contacts and friends during a month long visit to the UK. Their trip was planned around the Belbin® accreditation process and Reg Revans' Action Learning programs. They met with Barrie Watson, Dr. Meredith Belbin, Nigel Belbin and staff as well as clients, professors and proponents that use Belbin®'s Team Role/Work Role products and Action Learning programs. They toured the universities where they heard many enthusiastic and evangelical success stories about the use and benefits derived from these theories in use in organizational practice; in educational environments; and in leadership development programs. Several programs at these Universities use Reg Revan's Action Learning as a basis for Graduate and Executive Management development programs.

We found Belbin®'s theories and products and Revans' Action Learning programs were growing exponentially in the EU, Australia, Asia and more recently in the USA and Canada. Barrie Watson of Belbin® & Associates, recently completed several Belbin accreditation courses in the USA. We learned that both programs are currently penetrating Canada's Fortune 1000 companies. This results from Global expansion and mergers where exposure to these programs occur.
In response to this Global demand, Belbin®'s products have been adapted for cultural differences and translated into several different languages. A growing number of consultants and organizations are using these theories to develop high performance teams. Teams that are considered business critical and are a strategic advantage in todays' complex business environment. Effective team work is essential as organizations recognize the faults and short-commings of typical hierarchies. Many are transitioning to the new world of restructured and flatter organizations where team work proliferates and new challenges await.
We observed Action Learning Programs in use at a number of Universities and Management Colleges:
Salford University in Manchester UK, hosts Reg Revan's extensive collection of writing on Action Learning and is the home of the Revans' Institute for Action Learning and Research. (www.salford.ac.uk)
Bath University and Ashridge Business School, are proponents of Action Learning and Action Research theory offering post graduate degrees and programs based on using these theories. (www.bath.ac.uk) (www.ashridge.org.uk)
Henley Management College, where Meredith Belbin and colleagues conducted nine years of original research on team composition. This research combined with project seminars on management team-building in Australia, resulted in the concept of team roles. Team roles define the ways in which individuals with characteristic personalities and abilities, contribute in the team. Meredith Belbin founded Belbin® and Associates who subsequently developed several Team Role and Work Role theories; personal team role and work role computerized assessments; seminars; and games that aid in understanding Team Roles. These products help organizations benefit from the synergy of teams and help team members individual development. (www.henleymc.ac.uk)
International Foundation for Action Learning (IFAL) was set up to promote action learning. This is a process for improving management in which people learn together by direct involvement in the identification , analysis and treatment of their own real problems and opportunities. Since 1977 IFAL has become known and respected as a source of information and support for those who practice or are interested in action learning. (www.ifal.org.uk)
