Introduction to Teams

With the transformation of many organizations from rigid command, control and individual focus, to a structure that promotes greater participation and team focus; several renown individuals have researched and developed many theories, models and assessments that support this transition. Leaders of this important work are Drs Margerison and McCann of Team Management Systems (TMS), Dr Belbin of Belbin and Associates and followers of the late Dr Revans, the founder of the educational process called 'action learning'.

Through different approaches to the study of teamwork, they identified key activities or team behaviours that contribute to or detract from team work. TMS approached their studies and research from studying jobs and tasks, while Belbin studied the individual relationships and team member behaviour. Revan's action learning promoted teamwork with an equal focus on problem solving and individual team member development. Many of their separate findings support each other's work giving credence to the benefits of team role theory, models and assessments.

Extensive writings, assessments, team games, and profiles have evolved from their comprehensive research. While individual findings often complement and reinforce their independent work, they have managed to create unique and valuable suites of offerings from diverse perspectives. JTILTD is pleased to offer and recommend the best individual or combination of products and support based on an analysis of your team needs.

JTILTD in alliance with World ICU offers group and team developmental programs based on specific team competencies. In January of 2005 a group of Subject Matter Experts on Groups and Teams were convened to create a exhaustive list of group and team competencies. Their mission identified specific competencies that would help individuals understand the knowledge, skills, abilities and mindset that are required to fully engage in groups and teams. These competencies were sorted into categories and themes resulting in optimal training and learning modules. This modular approach facilitates the customization of program content in order to focus on your group/team development needs.

Professional adult learning facilitators deliver workshops created by combining modules. Facilitators are matched to the content based on their areas of specialty and expertise. Experiential learning events are incorporated into our programs. JTILTD maintains and collaborates with an alliance of professional trainers, academics and consultants in order to deliver excellent developmental learning events.

Involve me, and I'll understand"
